Some really important questions needs to be answered in order to understand how Google find any page and keep it on the top of the result(SERP's):-

  • How many times does your page contain the relevant keywords?(It should be optimized, neither high nor low)
  • Does the page include synonyms for those keywords?
  • Is this page from a quality website or is it low quality, even spamming?
  • How many back-links and outgoing links are embedded in the page in respect of quality and relevancy?
  • Well, there is a long list...! But I would like to mention one more factor which is very special for Google, and in which we all should concentrate, that is: "CONTENT" and when it comes to linking then "CONTENT RELEVANCY". It is the most important factor which really helps in ranking; how fresh is the content? how much relevant it is, to the linked page's content? How often it gets updated? How good you are in mixing the right proportion of keyword to the content? Everything matters.

Finally Google combine all these factors(which is not a complete list, there are over 200 factors) together to produce each pages overall score and display the search results accordingly.

If your pages are not performing well as you'd like, keep in mind that Google discovers new pages on your site just as users do; by following links from page to page.

There are 3 main key processes used by Google to deliver the search results according to the keyword:

Crawling: Does Google know about your site? Can we find it?

Indexing: Can Google index your site?

Serving: Does the site have good and useful content that is relevant to the user's search?

That means, the easier you make it for users to navigate your site, the easier it is for Google to discover its content. Like adding a navigational bar or a menu to your site is a popular and clean way to improve site navigation.

Make sure your site is indexed by Google, or else visitors won't be able to see it in search results.

You can check very easily if Google already knows about your site or not. Just type the following query in Google Search :-

"site:example.com"
For example : site:google.com

Note: Click on the link above, you will see the result which displays all the different pages associated with Google providing different services.

Note: Apart from adding site to Google and Submitting your content, you should be considering these also; Social Bookmarking, Link Earning(Forget Link Building), Press Release Submission, RSS Feed Creation and Submission, etc.
  • If your site doesn't show up but used to, it may be in violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines. You can check the 'Manual Actions' page in Webmaster Tools to see if there has been manual action taken against your site.
